Born and raised in Madison, WI. Owen has worked in the hospitality business for almost two decades. In the late 1990s he aspired to become a Chef, but after a few years of working in a kitchen Owen realized that what really made him happy was meeting the guests, getting to know them and sharing the experience of great cuisine.
Owen joined the Rare team as a dining room captain in October of 2014, just a few months after the grand opening and in February of 2018 he became a full-time manager at Rare Madison. Owen earned his level 1 Sommelier pin from the International Court of Sommeliers early 2018. One of his focuses at the restaurant is directing the wine program, which is no small feat with a wine list of around 400 different wines from all over the globe. Year after year Rare Madison received Wine Spectator’s Award of Excellence for having one of the most outstanding wines lists in the world.
With a huge passion for travel Owen has visited 21 different countries across 5 continents but he always comes back to his home, Madison, where Owen has a place at Rare that he honestly loves.
